OUR STORY

THE ART OF TRIBAL CRAFTSMANSHIP,
THE SOUL OF MEGHALAYA

The journey of NKSPCL began in the wettest villages of Syntein, Mawsynram . where generations of Khasi artisans refined the sacred art of bamboo and cane craft , living in harmony with forest , their craft was born out of necessity, utility and deep reverence for the land. What started as traditional home weaving and crafting has evolved into a movement for sustainable handcrafted journey ,  carrying the heritage of Meghalaya to global doors .

Today, NKSPCL represents resilience, preservation and community. We stand for sustainable empowerment through the preservation of indigenous craftsmanship .

OUR AIMS

ROOTED IN HERITAGE,
DRIVEN BY PROJECTS

Our long-term goal is to establish NKSPCL as India’s leading producer-owned enterprise for bamboo and cane crafts, bridging the gap between centuries-old indigenous knowledge and contemporary design demands. Through strategic infrastructure, cluster expansion, skills training, market linkage, and sustainable design, we aim to transform seasonal craft work into a reliable, year-round livelihood for over 962+ artisans—ensuring economic independence and pride for rural communities.

OUR MISSION

FROM TRADITIONAL CRAFT TO
SUSTAINABLE ENTERPRISE

NKSPCL operates on a dual-focused mission: empowering artisan communities while delivering high-quality, sustainable bamboo products to global markets. We are committed to preserving traditional craftsmanship while adapting it to modern lifestyle needs through continuous innovation and eco-friendly practices.

Key Focus Areas:

  • Preserving Heritage: Safeguarding ancestral techniques while adapting them to modern design needs.

  • Fostering Livelihoods: Creating year-round sustainable earning opportunities to combat rural migration.

  • Connecting Markets: Bridging the gap between remote artisans and conscious global consumers.

  • Empowerment & Inclusion: Elevating rural women artisans into financial independence and community leadership.

OUR VISION

PRESERVING TRADITION,
EMPOWERING COMMUNITIES

Our vision is to build a vibrant, sustainable craft ecosystem where Meghalaya’s traditional knowledge thrives in modern markets, enabling handloom and handicraft artisans to earn dignified livelihoods. We aspire to make sustainable, artisan-made bamboo products a first choice in conscious homes worldwide.

OUR JOURNEY

WHERE CRAFTSMANSHIP BEGINS:
A JOURNEY WITHOUT BORDERS

The story of Syntein began in May 2018  with a comprehensive survey led by Mrs  Priyam Hazarika along with Ms NL Pallai , RD DC(H) & Mrs Rima Sonar AD DC(H) , who recognized the immense skill of local weavers in Syntein village, East Khasi Hills, Meghalaya.

In 2022, this vision culminated in the establishment of NKSPCL (Nangkiewirat Ken Syntein PCL) on 20th April 2022. Built as a producer-owned enterprise, NKSPCL brings together artisans under a collective umbrella, providing them with training, design development, raw material support, and direct market access.

Supported by government schemes such as the NHDP (National Handicraft Development Programme) in 2023–24, NKSPCL has expanded its reach, participating in national expos, trade fairs, and luxury retail collaborations—bringing the rich heritage of Khasi craftsmanship to global platforms.
