Our Leadership
OUR FOUNDER
PRESERVE THE HERITAGE,
EMPOWER THE HANDS & CREATE SUSTAINABLE FUTURES
Priyam Hazarika’s journey is deeply rooted in the communities, traditions and craftsmanship of Northeast India since her teenage days. Growing up in Assam, she witnessed first hand challenges faced by artisans, weavers and rural communities & limited access to markets, infrastructure, design innovation and sustainable livelihood opportunities.
These experiences shaped her enduring commitment to craft, community empowerment and inclusive Socio – Economic Development.
As the Founder of the North East Development Forum (NEDF), Mrs Priyam has dedicated her life to creating sustainable opportunities for rural and artisan communities by uplifting their livelihood and raising profit margins through different projects. Her journey has taken her across craft clusters and communities, working to strengthen traditional skills while connecting artisans with infrastructure, training, design development, markets and entrepreneurial opportunities.
Through initiatives such as the Syntein Cluster, Rudrasagar Cluster and Jerenga Meteka Craft Cluster, she has worked alongside artisans to transform traditional craftsmanship into more organised, resilient and market-oriented enterprise without losing the cultural identity.
For Mrs Priyam, handicrafts are more than products. They represent living heritage, community knowledge and human potential. Her vision continues with a simple belief:
“When artisans are given the right opportunities, their craftsmanship can become a powerful force for sustainable development.”
